The Food Therapy Podcast

Feb 13, 2022

Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes, is a chronic auto-immune condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin, thus requiring an individual to self-inject insulin. Different factors can lead to being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, including genetics and some viruses, and while it is common to be diagnosed in childhood or adolescence, it can develop in adults. While the diagnosis itself is tough, the road ahead is long and often filled with misinformation and fear.

In today’s episode, we talk to Amanda Ciprich from T1D Nutritionist on Instagram. Amanda is a Diabetes Coach and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who specializes in helping people diagnosed with diabetes, after dealing with her own diagnosis at 18.

During our conversation, Amanda shares the transformation her own life underwent after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the young age of 18. She speaks on the realities of sugar and diabetes, what her relationship with food looks like and the stigma around diabetes, weight loss and restrictive diets.
